Welcome to Girard Middle School

Girard Middle School is very pleased to announce our 2017-2018 Teacher of the Year Candance Wilson.  Mrs. Wilson has worked as a special  education teacher for twelve years, the last two at Girard Middle School.  Mrs. Wilson is the 7th grade special education teacher.  Mrs. Wilson chose to be a special education teacher because she has a family member with a learning disability.  What motivates Mrs. Wilson to come to work each day with a smile and encouraging words for her students is her desire to guide students to become productive citizens in the community in which they live.

Teacher of Year

Angelia Harvey, a Girard Middle School and Northview High School 1985 Alumni, spoke to the girls at Girard Middle School.  She began talking to the girls by giving a description of herself at Girard Middle School.  Education was not a priority in her home, and she did not want to complete a science project.  The teacher took her aside and challenged her to complete the project and spoke the hard truth that she was as smart as the other kids at Girard Middle School.  That was a point of change in Angelia's academic career, she decided to do the science project, do her homework and ask questions.  Even though she took honors classes in high school, college was not an option for her so she turned to the military.  She joined the Navy and continued to grow and learn.  Angelia Harvey challenged our girls to keep their options open for a career path, do their homework, ask questions and pay attention and use the internet to learn rather than only for social media.

Principal McKay recognized over 100 students with perfect attendance. Each student was given a gift certificate and congratulatory thanks for coming to school each day. We believe students who attend school regularly are more likely to do well academically. Thank you students for your perfect attendance at Girard Middle School.
